BUTTON SEARCHING FOR MODIFIED RIDE AT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY
KIRKVILLE, NY – Popular Utica-Rome Speedway driver Gordy "Panic" Button of Kirkville would like to return to DIRT 358-Modified racing weekly at the speedway. However, he is searching for a ride for the upcoming season.
Button was forced to the sidelines last season following a scary flip at Utica-Rome on the start of the Eastern Limited Sprint (ELS) car feature event on May 28. He sustained severe injuries to his kneecap area, forcing him out of racing for the remainder of the season.
Several surgeries and many therapy sessions later, Button returned to racing at Fulton Speedway’s Victoria 200 driving the backup Gus Schmidt, Jr., / Schmidt Trucking 358-Modified. Button did not qualify for the event, however, he has fully recovered and his competitive fire and spirit remain. He would like to race a Modified once again at Utica-Rome, and it is likely that race fans will never see him behind the wheel of a Sprint Car again.
In all, Button has thirteen Modified feature victories at Utica-Rome with seven different winning seasons, placing him thirteenth on the all-time speedway Modified win list. His first win came on June 25, 1989 and his final win came on June 21, 1995, when he last competed regularly in his traditional No. 714 at the speedway. In addition, Button leads all Sprint Car drivers with the most victories in that division (4).
For sure, Button, who is well known for his fun personality and to the front driving style, would be an excellent addition to a talent packed DIRT 358-Modified division every Sunday this summer at Utica-Rome.
