Paul Tims Cleveland Homecoming Easter Victory

In his first visit back to his home track since mid-March
Georgetown, Tennessee racerPaul Tims recorded his first win of the 2001
season Easter weekend. Clevelandnative P.D. Doss picked up where he left off
last weekend in the Claimer LateModel division victory lane. “Murphy Mania”
seems to be sweeping ClevelandSpeedway as Chris Stewart became the second
Hobby winner of the small NorthCarolina town in the past two weeks. The
Elliott family had the Pony Stockfeature covered as Kenneth took the
checkered flag. And in the Street raceevening finale Jason Seaton took the
win for the first time this season.

In front of many of his friends, family, fans and even Peter
Cottontail himself, Saturday night Paul Tims heldoff current Cleveland
Speedway points leader Shawn Chastain for the wire towire Super Late Model
victory. The reigning Southern All-Star (2000) Rookie ofthe Year clocked in
his black # 84 “Cleveland Construction & Millwright,Port City Racing South”
Pontiac Gran Prix at 14:518 seconds during “Budweiser:King of Speed”
qualifying to earn the pole position for the first of two heats.David Smith
earned the pole for the other heat race as second fast clocking a14:625
second lap. Rounding out the six-pack of fast qualifiers were; Chastain,Kent
Hicks, Randy Burrows and Lamar Scoggins. In the first heat Tims andChastain
raced away from the field with Burrows, rookie James Gamble and TimRichardson
following. The second heat saw Hicks defeat pole sitter David Smithwith
Scoggins, defending track champion Andy Dill and Dewayne Smith followingunder
the flag.

As the field took the green Timspowered to the lead bringing
with him Chastain and David Smith momentarilywhile Hicks gathered things back
up on the high side. Dill, Scoggins and Tinkerbegan their march to the front
overpowering Smith and Burrows before settlinginto their own battle for
position. Dill held his recent mastery of the highside until a lap 17 stall
by Nick Yancy forced a restart. Tims never missed abeat as the remaining 13

their wheel to wheel battle as Scoggins fell outtacontention as the flags
flew. Tinker squeaked out fourth place over Dill at theflagstand.
