Duck River Speedway Results
From: Saturday, April 14, 2001

Saturday night was David Earl Gentry night at Duck River as the
Lewisburg native picked up his sixth and seventh wins of the 2001
In Late Model action, Gentry set quick time with a 13.186 clocking on a
very fast track then led all 25 circuits of the main event. The win was
not a cakewalk though as, last weeks winner and 1999 Speedway Champion,
Jerry Owens pushed Gentry most of the way and got under the flyin'
Warrior on a couple of occasions but could not complete the pass.
Defending Class Champion, David Thompson had his best run of the season
with a third place finish in his Ford. Anthony Burroughs and David
Seibers were fourth and fifth.

The Open Wheel feature saw Gentry grab yet another victory over
Columbia's, Barry Rochelle who had his best run of the young season.
Jason Maurer picked up his fourth Top 5 finish by placing third with
Bryan Reed and Bob Jarrett rounding out the Top 5. The heat race winners
were defending champion, Randy Zeigler and last weeks winner Mark
Haddon. Both succumbed to misfortune as Haddon had an early flat tire
and Zeigler broke while chasing Gentry in the runner-up spot.

The Claimer Late Model feature was taken by heat winner Allen Carter
who topped young Josh Nowlin . Nowlin's second place finish was the best
of his young career and comes on the heels of last weeks third place
run. Josh Lunsford continued his streak of being only one of four
drivers to finish in the Top 5 every single night of the 2001 racing
season! Chuck Lynch and Dwayne "CoonDog" Waid had their best runs of
the year taking the number 4 and 5 spots. Last weeks winner, Tommy
Climer experienced mechanical woes and did not finish.

Jaybird Marlin will probably see Jeff Shields in his sleep because
though Marlin won his heat race and fourth feature of the year, Shields
dogged the point leader the entire 23 laps(8 heat race and 15 feature).
Marlin and Shields put on a hotly contested but clean battle all the way
to the checkered flag. Both were closely pursued by Clyde Bruce (one of
those three divers with a Top 5 finish in every event this year) and
defending Super Stock Champion Tommy Davis. Cousin Donald Davis took the
fifth spot. Jay George won the second heat race.
