MARK WILSON LOSES LIFE IN KNOXVILLE PRACTICE ACCIDENT
KNOXVILLE, IOWA, April 14, 2001 - 360-cubic-inch sprint car racer Mark
Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa, was fatally injured Saturday during 'practice
night' at the Knoxville Raceway.
Wilson, the grandson of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Bob Trostle, was
hot-lapping aboard the Larry Weeks-owned number 00 sprinter when it suddenly
veered into the frontstretch fence near the turn four pit gate on its own.
The 30-year-old driver was an experienced competitor at area tracks, with
four career wins at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville and numerous
wins at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Mark Wilson was
pronounced dead at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
