Greg Skinner Takes Green Valley Speedway Checkers!
Glencoe, AL-Green Valley Speedway was back in action with a Full racing
Program after a week off, courtesy of Mother Nature and a strong field of
drivers were on hand in all classes to wage war on Etowah County based
Action got under way as 19 Kilpatrick Super Late Models engaged in Pole
Qualifying with fast qualifier being Greg Skinner with a 15.87-second lap on
the 3/8's mile semi banked clay oval.
The next event for the Super Late Models was the Alabama Driver's Academy
Quick Six Dash for Cash. Fast qualifier Skinner drew a 6; with the top four
Quick Six competitors inverted in Dash for starting position. The Dash
finish consisted of Greg Skinner winning for 4th starting position, other
competing in the elite top six were Stacy Holmes, Jon Miller, Jody
Summerville, Kelly Hanvey, and Mark Bangs.
The 25-lap Super Late Model Main event would see Oxford, AL's Greg Skinner
go flag to flag with Munford's Stacy Holmes in hot pursuit. The 1999 GVS
Track Champion Skinner his Skinner Body Shop sponsored GRT Monte Carlo to
Victory Lane for the first time in 2001.
The top ten consisted of Skinner, Stacy Holmes, Jody Summerville, Mark
Bangs, and Brandon King completing the top five. Sixth place finisher was
Jimmy Hiett, followed by Don Farmer, Dickie Miller, Skip Freeman and Joe
Armistead Jr. completing the top ten.
There was a strong field of Vinson Racing Engines Sportsman cars with 18
cars on hand with Georgia's Cliff Brannon visiting Victory Lane after a well
behaved Sportsman event that had only one caution in the 20 lap main event.
Following Brannon were Gadsden's Kevin Tallant, Shane Clanton, Greg Noah,
and Chad Smith.
Another strong field of Weese Precision Machine/Clausen Gulf Coast Region
IMCA Modifieds was on hand. The IMCA Modified drivers put on a great race,
as Ryan Tolleson claimed the victory. Tolleson was followed by Scottie
Gowers, Foster Poe, David Griffin, and "Mean" Gene Mince.
Dwayne Floyd won the Super Stock Main followed by Tim Bannister, defending
Track Champion Greg Chumley, Joe Sims, and Robert Armbrust.
The Bomber Main saw Jeff Crane take the checkered flag first followed by
Jason Hamby, Jodie Free, Michael Williams, and Jim Wheeling in the quickly
growing new class at Green Valley.
Pony winner was Ross Baines followed by Alan Glaze, Brian Dodgen, Fred
Helms, and Mr. Osburn. The Pure Pony winner was Josh Battles followed by
Todd Bennich and Keith McMurtrey completing the top three.
A Full Racing Program is scheduled for next Friday night with racing at 8pm.
