JIMMY BLEWETT SCORES MODIFIED WIN AS 2001 COORS LIGHT/NAPA AUTO PARTS RACING
SERIES TO KICKS OFF AT WALL STADIUM
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Sophomore Modified stock car driver Jimmy Blewett of
Howell raced to an impressive opening night victory on Saturday in the Coors
Light/NAPA Auto Parts Racing Series at Wall Stadium. Blewett earned $1,200
for the win, which included a $200 bonus from B&B and Riverside Recycling.
Although the temperatures were cold, Blewett was hot as he vaulted from a
fifth starting slot and into the lead early in the race. He then dealt with
the challenges of veteran Harry Reed of Freehold early before Tim Arre of
Toms River moved his Downs Ford Motorsports No. 4 into second in an effort to
win the race backed his sponsor.
Blewett's United Crane Rentals No,. 76 streaked across the finish line
just in front of Arre at the conclusion of 30-laps, with Reed third and
Howell's John Blewett III, fourth. Brian Scisco of Bradley Beach was fifth.
Blewett III proved to be the fastest car on the track by posting an
electronically timed lap around the third-mile paved oval of 12.493 seconds
during the race.
Neptune's George Andretta got the new year off to a good start with a win
in the 25-lapper for the NGK Spark Plugs Pro Stocks. Early race leader Kenny
Reaves of Piscataway was second at the stripe, while Chaz Okerson of
Freehold, Farmingdale's Jim Vogt and Jackson's Ray Gastelu were third through
Jason Duvall of Farmingdale was the first of a large pack to cross the
finish line as he won the 20-lapper for the Garage Door Express Street
Stocks. Scott Parkstrom of Manalapan was right on his bumper at the end, with
John McCormack of Farmingdale and defending champ Larry Thompson of Parlin
wrapping up the tight top four.
Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg got the new season off on a winning note by
capturing the 20-lap main event for the Monmouth Truck Equipment Truck
Series, holding off defending champ Tim Buckley of Marlboro. Tim Henry proved
that is capable of taking his third straight crown in the Weiss' Boots &
Apparel legend Cars by winning the season opening 20-lapper.
With the season opener now in the record books, pro auto racing will
continue at Wall Stadium every Saturday night through September. This
Saturday evening (April 14) all five divisions return to action. In addition,
the new Neptune Research Three-Quarter Midget division will debut in the
Awards Tophies backed 25-lap feature. All action begins at 7:00 p.m.
