EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY STOCK CAR RACING OPENER POSTPONED ONE WEEK DUE TO WET
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Dirt track auto racing fans and competitors will have to
wait an extra week before the season begins at the East Windsor Speedway.
Saturated grounds and a slow down of construction at the track caused by the
wet weather are the reason for the delay.
The half-mile clay oval was originally slated to open this Friday night,
April 6. The season opener is now set for Friday, April 13.
"As of Saturday, much of the parking area at the track was under water,
even though the track is fine," promoter Jack Simmons said. "We were also
busy doing work on our grandstands and the wet weather really held us up on
that project. Right now, the grounds are so wet that we can't even get our
heavy equipment in the spectator area behind the grandstands without getting
Large fields of competitors in the Big-block and Small-Block Modified,
Sportsman and Street Stock divisions are expected when the East Windsor
Speedway opens the 2001 season on Friday evening, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. and
with good reason. In addition to lucrative weekly purses, a large array of
sponsors has stepped up for contingency awards and the end of the year point
Racers wishing to avoid opening night lines can obtain competitor pit
licenses and parking spots at the speedway office this Saturday, April 7.
Office hours for this Saturday are from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Once the April 13 opener is complete, racing will continue every Friday
