Indiana, PA (April 1) - The Challenger Raceway held their "Test and Tune Day" on Saturday. And if this is any indication of what fans can expect for the 2001 racing season, then it should be a highly competitive season at the Indiana County oval. There were 55 competitors on hand in the four divisions, just to take some practice runs and familiarize themselves with the four-tenth's mile clay oval.

The challenge for the Pittsburgh Crankshaft Late Model title should be fierce, as there were 17 competitors making practice runs. The strongest turnout was in the Townsend Gas & Oil Mideastern Modifieds, with 18 race teams on hand. There were 15 Stewart Bus Line Pure Stocks, and five Strictly Stock teams also making test runs. In addition, there were two other race teams getting laps, in divisions that do not compete on a regular basis.

With "Test and Tune Day" in the books, all eyes are now focusing on the opening event of the 2001 racing season. It will take place on Saturday evening, April 7. Four division of competition will be presented weekly on Saturday evenings, featuring the Pittsburgh Crankshaft Late Models. The Townsend Gas & Oil Mideastern Modifieds, Stewart Bus Line Pure Stocks, and Strictly Stocks will also share in the weekly racing programs. Each week, the gates will open at 5:30, with the race time set for 7:30 PM.

Challenger Raceway is well known for their special events, and the first of the "Sunday Night Specials" will take place on Sunday, April 29. The STARS National Dirt Car Racing League will visit for the running of the "Spring Fling," with the winner earning $5,000. The Mideastern Modifieds will also be on the card, as the gates open at 5:30, with racing to start at 7:30.

Challenger Raceway is located 6.4 miles southwest of US 422 on SR 286, then one mile north on McIntyre Road.
