MARS CLAIMS INITIAL UDTRA VICTORY IN ALBERTSON'S SPRING CHALLENGE

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 31, 2001) - Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, Wis., scored the first United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series victory of his career Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in the Albertson's Spring Challenge. Mars drove the Parker Stores Mastersbilt dirt late model into the lead on lap 15 and led the rest of the 50-lap distance. Mars won $15,000.

Mars led laps eight through 11 then moved around Shannon Babb of Decatur, Ill, for the top spot on lap 15 around the four-tenths mile clay track and held command the rest of the way. Mars defeated Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark. by 0.96 seconds.

"I have to thank everybody here at Texas Motor Speedway for giving us a chance to put on a good show in front of a big crowd," said Mars. "My sponsor Parker Stores has been with me for quite a while. It's a very emotional win for me, it's just awesome."

Frye held on to finish second and earn $7,500. He closed drastically on Mars in the closing laps. "I am proud to finish this race. Finishing was rough but we ran good. We didn't have anything left for Mars, we were just too tight on the chassis setup, second is just great."

Marshall Green of Dalton, Ga. took third place ahead of Terry English of Benton, Ky. and Edwin Wells of Morilton, Ark. NASCAR Winston Cup star Ken Schrader of Fenton, Mo., came from the rear of the starting field to place sixth.

The next event at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track will be the AirMx freestyle motorcross program on Saturday night, April 28.
