News Release

Story submitted by Jimmy Layell and Cynthia Allred
March 24, 2001

As another beautiful Saturday dawned, the scene was
set for another
afternoon of racing action at Friendship Speedway. A
brief shower
between
features didn't dampen the spirits of drivers or fans,
as the afternoon
ended with a complete race program.

Sportsman driver, Darryl Wood took his second victory
of the new season
in
his Johnson Racing Camaro, as he held off Ralph Bates
determined
challenge
to the checkers. Daniel Moss made a strong showing in
the early
laps
to finish third with Joel Bray finishing fourth
followed by David
Bunton
in fifth.

The Semi-Modified 4 feature was won by former track
champion, Michael
Wells,
driving the Mary's Restaurant, Hollar Race Engines
Mustang for injured
Junior Welborn. Wells made the feature an exciting one
as he put the
car he
built himself in Victory Lane. Matthew Warden took
second after
closely
contesting Wells in the final laps. Eddie Blackburn
claimed third
place as
he edged by Jamie Holcomb in a photo finish for
position. Tim Wyatt in
an
ill handling car held on to finish fifth.

Mount Airy's Noel Tucker made it two Late Model wins
in a row in his
T & T Home Improvements, Aunt Bea's Barbecue, 4D
Electric Pontiac as he
held
off a strong challenge from Chad Paxton who finished
second. Newcomers
Larry Ramsey and David Bennett both from the Natural
Bridge, Virginia
area,
provided stout competition in their first season at
Friendship
finishing
third and fourth over Kevin Gwynn in fifth.

The Speedway Tanning sponsored machine of Jerry Farley
took top honors
in
the Limited Late Model division for his first win in
the 2001 race
season.
Jimmy Watson and Tommy Zachary vied for second and
third followed by
Garvey
Pennington in the fourth position and Daryl Richardson
taking fifth.

In the Pure Stock division, Jimmy Grimes in his
Alvin's Alignment,
Window
World Monte Carlo, won his first feature of the
season. Marty Billings
having led since the green flag, spun in turn four
only yards from the
finish line allowing Grimes to get past him for the
win. Billings
regained
control to finish second ahead of third place finisher
Robert Marion
with
newcomer Paul West finishing fourth and Greg Porter in
fifth.

This week's racing program will once again be an
afternoon event with
the
gates opening at 12:00 PM and racing action beginning
at 2:00 PM. This
will
be the last date for the afternoon shows as the
regular Saturday night
schedule resumes in April.

Friendship Speedway will host the Carolina Clash
Series Super Late
Models
several times this season with the first on April 14.
