Wing and Ward repeat Winners in the Mardi Gras Nationals

Pike County Speedway was over flowing with 142 race cars . 41 SUPR late
models. 6 heat races. Heat one started with fast timer Bill Frye on the pole
next to Mike Boland the two touched and Frye went into the lead. Dennis
Duncan and Mancil got together in two. A couple laps later Dennis Duncan got
into Joel McRainey and brought out the yellow again. Bill Frye went on to win
by 10 car lengths over Mike Boland and Rodney Wing.
Heat two Marlon Wild sat on the pole and pulled away from Riter and
Watson on the drop of the green. At the checkered Wild had half the track
between him and Riter and Rob Litton who had moved up to third.
Heat three Dave Siegert started from the pole and led every lap to take
the win. Chris Wall was going to pass second place Eric Courville and spun in
four. Courville took second and Slay third.
Heat four Sam Patrick led it all the way to take the win followed by
David Knight and Ryan Plaisance.
Heat five Jay Blair blasted into the lead and won over Dewylinder and
Heat six Keith Craft sat on the pole, but David Ashley blasted past
him to the lead. And went on to score the win over Bill Avant.
Slay won the first of two last chance races with Rodney wing right
behind him. Rob Litton took second last chance win with Ryan Plaisance coming
Marlon Wild got the jump on the start of the 50 lap feature and moved
into the lead. Sam Patrick followed in second and David Ashley third. The
first yellow flew when Dennis Duncan spun. On the restart Ashley moved to
second. After receiving a tap form Frye Sam Patrick got crossed up on the
back and Rob Litton with no where to go nailed him and drove Patrick to the
wall. Both cars were heavily destroyed. With 6 laps in the green waved again
. One lap later Ricky May slowed on the front straight bringing out another
yellow. With 13 laps in the bag Bill Frye died in turn four. On lap 15 Mike
Boland took over the lead in front of Eric Courville. On lap 17 David Knight,
Marlon Wild and Dave Siegert ran three wide for fourth place. Next yellow
flew on lap 18 when Kennith Crowe spun on front straightaway. Lap 20 Eric
Courville took over the lead. Lap 31 Mike Boland took over the lead.
Courville hung on only 4 more laps in second when out came the blue smoke
retiring him for the rest of the race. Lap 38 David Ashley took over the lead
again. While running second on lap 41 Mike Boland went up in a cloud of blue.
Wing moved up to second after starting 15th and on the final lap in turn two
got the lead from David Ashley and went on to win the second Mardi Gras
Nationals followed by David Ashley, Dave Siegert, David Knight, Slay, Ryan
Plaisance, Bubba Mullins, Bill Avant, Dewylinder, Donald Watson, Kennith
Crow, Dennis Duncan, Marlon Wild, Mike Boland, Bill Frye, Eric Courville,
Larry Riter, Odie Green, Ricky May, Jay Blair, Sam Patrick and Rob Litton.
Shane Hebert, Doyle Bratton, Bobby Helmer and Greg Hollingsworth all
took heat wins for UMP. Joel Couvillion and Kent Hollingsworth took last
chance races for Modified's.Shane Hebert sat on the pole for the UMP Modified
feature, but it was Gregg Hollingsworth that blasted into the lead. James
Ward smoothly worked his way to the front and with laps counting down took
the lead away from Hollingsworth. Ward scored the second win for the Mardi
Gras Nationals. Hollingsworth took second, Jerry Cassano third, Doyle Bratton
ran strong all night and finished 4th. Jason Taylor moved his Ford powered
Modified swiftly to the front to take fifth spot.
Wilson Voisin and Joey Humphreys took the heat wins for Super Stock.
Voisin from the pole took the lead, but not for long. Robert Morel took it
over. Voisin blew up on the front straightaway. Bill Jordan moved to second
then took the lead from Moral. The two swapped paint and the lead a couple
times till Moral got it and held it and took his first win in a Super Stock
since moving up from Street Stock. Jordan took second, third Glenn
Stanger,fourth Jim Adams, and fifth Ace Duhon.
Kerry Vicknair and Todd Rogers shared the heat wins in street stock. On
the start these two drag raced down the front straightaway by turn one and
two from the high side Rogers pulled into the lead and held off Vicknair to
take the win. Vicknair took second, Jason Holland third, Louie Morals
fourth and Jamie Hamilton fifth.
Michael Barfield, Michael Blackard and Health Coward all shared pure
stock heat wins. Michael Barfield took the lead on the start, but then spun
on front straightaway. Jamie Blades took over as leader . Blades led the rest
of the laps and took the win. Michael Blackard ran second till the end of
the race when he started sputtering and went in the pits. Rusty Cooper moved
up to take second, Scott Womack third, Bill McDaniels fourth and rounding out
the top five was Michael Barfield.
