BIGGEST SEASON YET SET FOR “The Home of the “Mighty Modifieds”,
CENTRAL MISSOURI SPEEDWAY!
21 Scheduled 2003 Race Nights, 3 “Holiday Big Ones”, plus 3 “1K Modified Specials”!

Cranking into their tenth anniversary year as owners and promoters of Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Earl and Susan Walls have solidly set their biggest ever racing season for 2003.
Planning to stay with the same quality and highly accepted race car classes and 'every Saturday night' format, additional changes are being made to spice up the “Fast-Action Excitement”, 1/3rd mile, high banked clay oval.
“We've been able to improve steadily on our speed-plant over the years,” points out co-owner and promoter, Earl Walls. “Our goal for this year is to apply new and higher light poles and a stronger lighting system to bring the on-track brightness up”.
Walls also explains, “We added several new, more powerful lights last season, but we found that the existing poles were not high enough to let the illuminated area spread. It was too focused in small spots. We'll be able to get more distance out of this system”.
Of the 21 events set for the year, there are six, high-paying “Mighty Modified” events along with three other special race nights, one for each class; the Limited Late Models, WOFC Sprint Cars and Street Stocks.
The “Holiday Big Ones” will again fall on those special, holiday weekends. The first “Big One” will take place on May 24th , titled as the 8th Annual “Modified Memorial Mayhem”. “Big One #2” will be on the Independence Day weekend, July 5th , and is carded as the 6th Annual Farm and Home/ T-Mobile “Bar-B-Que Bowl”. Coming up with the final, major event of the season will be the 7th Annual “Missouri Modified Mania” on August 30th.
Plans for the famous “Crazy Browning Brothers Giant Fireworks Display” have been set, as it was last year, to take place the week BEFORE the “Bar-B-Que Bowl”. It will be held on June 28th during the “IGA 'Hometown Proud'” Race Night.
As with all three of the high-dollar occurrences, the purse will total over $22,000 with the Modified, 40 lap feature winner carting home $2,000. The payout stays high, with second scoring $1,500, $1,000 for third, $900 for fourth and a slow purse reduction down the payoff line. The following evening, Sunday, has been set aside as the rain date for all the events. The additional, weekly classes will also be part of the complete programs.
“We don't put our big races for the year on just one night or weekend, or outside of the regular racing season,” confides Susan Walls. “ It gives the fans a chance to experience and to see excellent specials, and gives the racers more of a chance to win a major event. If they can't win big the first time, they get other chances”.
Adds Susan, “There's one thing that is going to happen here that hasn't happened in the ten years we've been here. But it's something we find we must do. Our big events charged the same as the weekly admission price, but due to a decade of inflation and our insurance rates rising by 20 to 25% for the last three years, we're going to have to increase the prices for the three “Big Ones”. But only for those three race nights. We're going to have to raise it by $2 in all of our age categories. The pit pass prices will remain the same throughout all of our events this season”.
In comparison to other tracks nationwide, the total admission price is still much lower than found elsewhere for such a large race night.
The weekly admission prices to the grandstands will remain the same as always; Adults-$10, Senior Citizens (over 60)-$8, ages 6 though 11-$6 and at all events children under 6-Free.
Three additional specials for the Modifieds, their inception being last year, will be the “1K Modified Specials”. PEPSI Racing will be the major backers of June 14th's first event, with BUD Racing also sponsoring the runs for all three. The Central Auto Racing Boosters Night falls on the second special on July 19th while the final '1K' takes place on August 9th.
As is easily evident, the Modified feature winner cops $1,000 for the victory. Second starts at $900 and the entire purse from eighth down is the same as in the “Big Ones”. CMS' complete and detailed payoff schedule for this year can be found on the website at: www.centralmissourispeedway.com .
KOKO Radio and Sunoco Racing Fuels will be the backers of the “2003 Season Opener” on April 26th. For three weeks previous to that, there will be Test and Tune practices starting on April 5th. That and the April 12th practice will start at noon and the final testing will take place on Saturday night starting at 7:30, 'under the lights'.
The major events for the other three “Big Four” divisions will be the RSC Rental Service “6th Annual Street Stock Bash”, on June 21st the 7th Annual “WDAF '61 Country' “Limited Late Model Shootout” and the 6th Annual WOFC Sprint Car Association's “Sprint Car Rumble” on July 12th.
Returning after a year's hiatus will be the “Good Old Time Racing” 'real steel, real deal' coupes and sedans competing in their 50's racing vintage machines on August 23rd. The Annual KMMO Radio/ “Kids Race Night” will be back yet again on August 16th.
The CMS racing season, as always, will be topped off on September 13th with the “2003 Season Championships” for all four classes, and as the year-closing event.
All events are on Saturday nights. The gates open at 5 pm, hot laps at 7 with the first green-flagged race off the line at 7:30 pm.
