HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY TO CROWN TRACK CHAMPIONS FOR 2002 SEASON
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Speedway will crown their 2002 track
champions at its annual awards banquet to be held on Saturday night,
December 21st in the Clarion Inn Convention Center on the Dual Highway,
U.S. Route 40 East in Hagerstown, MD. The gala event will get underway
at 5:30 P.M. with cocktail hour followed by dinner at 6:30 P.M.
The awards ceremony will honor Hagerstown Speedway’s top 15 drivers in
each division. The top 15 drivers will receive point monies and the top
10 will also receive trophies. Several special awards for drivers and
car owners will also be presented. All drivers must attend in order to
receive their point monies.
Nathan Durboraw of Hagerstown will take home the bulk of the point
money for his record breaking seventh ITSI late model championship.
Durboraw will also receive a diamond ring from Reeds Jewelers in the
Valley Mall in Hagerstown. Durboraw had three feature wins including the
Dave Rice Jr. of Greencastle, PA did not let the sophomore jinx keep
him from winning the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman
championship. After winning Rookie of the Year honors in 2001, Rice
showed he belonged in the sportsman division by winning the track title
with two feature wins. Rice had three championships in the pure stock
Hans Stamberg of Barnesville won the Ernie’s Salvage Yard pure stock
division by only two points in the tightest point race ever. Stamberg
won two features that put him on top to stay mid-way through the season
for his first track title.
