Deery Series makes July 3, 4 visits to Quincy, West Burlington
VINTON, Iowa (June 19) – Who will tame the quick quarter-mile at Quincy? Can Chris Smyser take the second step toward the $10,000 bonus at 34 Raceway?
Both questions will be answered in Deery Brothers Summer Series events over the Independence Day holiday.
I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Model drivers following the 16th annual series travel to Quincy, Ill., Raceway on Wednesday, July 3. Then it’s off to 34 Raceway at West Burlington, Iowa, for the Fourth of July special.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m. both days. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m. at Quincy. Hot laps start at 6:15 p.m. the next night at West Burlington, with the first heat set for 7 p.m.
Smyser won the April 13 Deery feature at 34 Raceway and can collect the 10 grand bonus with victories when the series returns there on July 4 and in the two-day show Aug. 14-15.
Other upcoming series events are July 9, on the asphalt at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, and July 25 at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City.
Ken Schrader of Winston Cup fame will return to Hawkeye Downs and looks to repeat his series victory of a year ago.
With six of 15 scheduled events already in the book, Terry Schlipman of Mendon, Ill., has a 22-point edge over Yarmouth’s Tom Darbyshire for first in the current series point standings
