ADVANCE AUTO PARTS SUPER DIRT SERIES TO GET UNDERWAY AT HAGERSTOWN
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Speedway will once again kick off the
27-race DIRT Motorsports season on Saturday, March 30th with the 2002
Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series. A first-place prize of
$6,000 awaits the winner of the 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT
Series lid-lifter with all the top teams in big-block racing today
expected to be in competition.
One of the drivers planning to be at Hagerstown will be Defending
Hoosier-Sunoco Mr. DIRT champion Brett Hearn of Sussex, NJ. In seven
modified starts this season, five in Florida and two at Hagerstown,
Hearn has scored three wins, five-top-five finishes, and seven top-tens.
His overall career record now stands at 571 wins at 43 tracks in nine
states and two Canadian provinces. Hearn leads all modified drivers with
13 checkered flags at Hagerstown.
"I can't wait to race at Hagerstown," said the popular 47-year-old
driver. " I say it all the time. I love the place. I wish we had more
Hearn will have his hands full when the green flag drops at 6 P.M. on
Saturday. Among the many drivers who will be on hand include the
brothers Danny and Alan Johnson. The popular New-York Tandem has racked
up over 800 open-wheel feature wins and captured more than 40 point
titles during their track side tenure. Alan, 44, from Phelps, NY is the
only driver to win a big-block modified feature every year of DIRT
Motorsports' existence which began in 1976. Native Rochester, NY Danny,
41, holds Super DIRT Series marks for consecutive wins in both Modified
(5) and 358-Modified (8) competition.
Joining Hearn and the Johnsons on the pre-entry list are Chuck Bower,
who set fast time last year in DIRT's inaugural visit, Steve Paine, last
year's winner, Jamie Mills, opening day winner, Tim Fuller, Frankie
Caprara, Vic Coffey, Pat Ward, Tim McCreadie, Doug Hoffman, Billy
Decker, Jack Johnson, Kenny Tremont and many more.
Joining the DIRT modifieds will be a complete program for the ITSI late
models. Race time is 6 P.M. with gates opening at 4 P.M.
