2002 Schedule announced at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (February 24) - Raceway 7 owner and promoter Ron Nielson has announced the 2002 racing schedule at Raceway 7, the 7/16 mile clay oval located in Ashtabula County.

Four racing divisions will be in competition each and every Friday night, as Maloney Tool and Mold will return as the title sponsor of the headlining Super Late Model division. **** Barton will be defending his 2001 division championship, but will be facing some tough competition. A large number of teams have indicated their desire to compete at Raceway 7, as the class offers the highest payoff for any division in a large surrounding area. The minimum winners share will be $2,002, with several events paying in excess of that amount.

The E-Mod division will return for the tenth season, as Raceway 7 was one of the first tracks in the area to add the division. Todd Roncaglione will be on hand to defend his 2001 point championship.

Fame Manufacturing has long been a strong supporter of Raceway 7, and they will return as the title sponsor of the Street Stock division. Mike Hochschild was the 2001 champion.

Brand new for 2002 is the Hobby Stock division. This class has been designed for entry level drivers to enter the sport of auto racing. Rules for this and all divisions are available on the Raceway 7 web site at

The 2002 season opener will take place on April 26, as Friday night racing programs featuring four divisions will take place every week until Labor Day. One week prior to the opener will be a Practice Night for all divisions, on April 19.

The biggest program of the season will take place on July 5, as General Aluminum of Park Ohio will present "The Ohio Nationals." The national traveling UDTRA Late Models will return to northeast Ohio for the third straight season, as the main event winner will earn $10,000.

The Renegade DirtCar Series for Late Models, formerly known as STARS, will make a return to Raceway 7 for a program on July 26. Jay's Auto Wrecking will sponsor the program as the main event winner will earn $5,000.

Also a part of the schedule is a series of events called the Tri-State Series. During two weekends of the season, Late Model events will be held on Friday at Raceway 7, Saturday at McKean County Raceway in Pennsylvania and Little Valley Speedway in New York. The first weekend of races will take place on May 24-26. The second weekend on July 12-14 will feature the Late Models racing topless, without the roofs on the cars.

The Late Models will not be the only division having special events, as the Triathlon Racing Series York Modifieds will visit to take on Raceway 7's strong E-Mod contingent. The first visit will be on May 17, with the second coming on August 16 as both events will be presented by General Aluminum. The premier event of the York Series season will return to Raceway 7 on September 6 as Applebee Motorsports will present the second running of "THE 100." The York Series Sprint cars will also make a return visit on this night.

Race time every Friday is 7:30, with the gates opening at 5:30. Raceway 7 is located six miles south of Interstate 90 on Ohio Route 7. For more information, please call the track office at 814-967-4230. For the most complete source of Raceway 7 information, please visit the track's web site at
