Central tie means eight ROY awards in seven Modified re-gions
VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 4) - Eight rookies of the year have been named for the seven I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified re-gions.
Yes, you read that right.
For the first time, two rookie I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified drivers in the same region ended the season with the same point total. As a result of that tie, Nebraskans Robby Marsh of Hebron and David Pedersen of Maxwell will share rookie of the year honors in the Dirt Works Central Region.
The two never raced against each other, or even at the same track, in their combined 85 outings. Pedersen had 12 top five finishes in 40 starts while Marsh ended the season with nine top five's and 45 starts.
Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon, Iowa, was the Dirt Works North Central Region and national rookie of the year, with 14 wins and 22 more top five runs in 51 races. He was also track champion at the Bloomfield, Iowa, Speedway.
Ramie Stone of Winton, Calif., led rookie racers in the D&M Performance Western Region. Larry Cornell of Aztec, N.M., topped the rookie points race in the Dirt Works Mountain Region and Billy Brierton of Greenville, Texas, is rookie of the year in the Dirt Works South Central Region.
Rookie of the year in the Dirt Works North Eastern Region is Knox, N.Y.'s Travis Stevens and Jason Barnhill is num-ber one among rookies in the Clausen Racing Gulf Coast Region.
Brierton won nine of his 47 starts, with 19 top five finishes. Stevens took to the track on 42 nights, recording three victories and another 14 runs in the top five.
In 32 starts, Stone posted four feature wins and 18 top five's.
Barnhill and Cornell each had two wins. Barnhill added 11 top five finishes out of 31 starts. Cornell was in the top five in another 16 of his 37 races.
