WOLF BRAND CHILI CHALLENGE CRITICAL IN UDTRA POINT BATTLE
FORT WORTH-DALLAS (August 24, 2001) - The 2001 United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series championship battle has been similar to a horse race. Two drivers, Steve Francis and Rick Eckert, got strong starts and are looking to hold off the late closer, Scott Bloomquist.
The Wolf Brand Chili Challenge at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on Thursday night, September 13 will play a critical role in helping determine the season-long point king. Only six events remain on the schedule following the Wolf Brand Chili Challenge, which places extra urgency on the race.
Francis currently holds a seven-point lead over year-long pacesetter Rick Eckert. Francis and Eckert have conducted a two-driver dogfight for the top position throughout the season. Bloomquist, the defending and four-time UDTRA champion, has gone on a second-half victory streak and is third in the standings, 123 markers behind Francis. Bloomquist leads UDTRA with nine wins this season.
The trio will be fighting not only for points toward the season championship but also the $15,000 winner's check up for grabs in the 50-lap feature around the four-tenths mile clay speedway. The program will consist of qualifications, Borla Performance heat races, Renegade Transporters and Polaris ATV consolation events and the 50-lap Wolf Brand Chili Challenge.
Gates for the Wolf Brand Chili Challenge will open at 5:00 p.m. on September 13 with qualifications beginning at 6:30 p.m. Fans can receive a $5.00 discount on tickets by bringing two labels from Wolf Brand Chili, Ranch Style Beans or Ro-Tel Diced Tomatoes purchased at Albertsons. Reserved grandstand seats begin at $15 and are available daily at the speedway ticket office, by calling the speedway hotline at (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations.
