Cleveland / S.A.S. Gobbler 2001 Announcement

The Cleveland Speedway and Southern All-Stars series have inked the program for the 2001 Gobbler. This year's event marks the 13th year of the great November (sometimes December, dependant upon the weather) race. This year's event will note two changes in the events format. First and foremost the event is now a one night only event. This year's date is Saturday night, November 17th in which the series will qualify (lock in the fastest 16 or 18, depending upon the car count), with rest of the rest of the field being made up of "B" Main
race(s). The "A" Main event will be a 75 lap feature race (the second change) and will pay $5,000 to win. Patrick Duggan of Lenior City is the 2000 race champion and is expected to be in competition piloting his #15 "Waldrop Transmission" sponsored Super Late Model to defend is title. Former winners of the event include; John Jones of Rock Springs GA (`99), Danny Peoples of Talladega AL (`98), Dale McDowell of Rossville GA (`97 & `93), Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga (`96, `92 & `90), Don O'Neal (`95), Frank Ingram of Acworth GA (`94), Lamar Lowry of Georgetown (`89), and current S.A.S. series points leader Rex Richey of Ringgold GA (`91). The Cleveland Speedway local divisions (Claimer Late Models, Hobby, Pony Stock and Street) will support the Super Late Models with a regular racing program. Reserve seats for the event are available by calling the track M-F 9AM to 2PM at (423)479-8574. More information regarding the event will be released, such as pit passes and general admission ticket prices, on the speedway's web-site .
