HOUSTON RACEWAY PARK CANCELS UDTRA EVENT - THUNDER VALLEY SPEEDWAY FILLS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WOODSTOCK, GA - Due to unforeseen circumstances, officials at Houston
Raceway Park in Houston, TX have unexpectedly canceled the United Dirt Track
Racing Association Pro Dirt Car Series event on September 15. Despite the
HRP cancellation, the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be in action on
September 15 at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, LA.
Thunder Valley Speedway was originally scheduled to run their rain date
from March on September 16, but when Houston Raceway Park official announced
their cancellation, TVS owner/promoter Jackie Thacker was quick to move
50-lap $10,000-to-win event from Sunday, September 16 to Saturday, September
"I'm only 200 miles away from Houston, and on a Saturday night, we'll pack
this place for the UDTRA show, like we have for the past two years," Thacker
said. "I know there are a lot of fans in the Houston area that are
disappointed for the second straight year that were looking forward to
seeing the UDTRA Pro Dirt Series. We're only three hours away, and we
certainly invite them to Thunder Valley Speedway to see the best in dirt
late model racing."
Thacker wanted a Saturday night rain date for his rained out UDTRA Pro
DirtCar Series event on March 24 when they returned to the area in
September. However, at that time, UDTRA officials were under contract with
Houston Raceway Park officials for a September 15 date.
"When we rained out in March, I wanted a Saturday night rain date because
're a Saturday night track," Thacker said. "We couldn't do that because
Houston's date on the schedule, so we had to take Sunday. Houston canceling
has done us a big favor, and we'll gladly take the Saturday September 15
Thunder Valley Speedway will host a practice session and cookout for the
UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series on Friday, September 14 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Past UDTRA winners at Thunder Valley Speedway are the defending and
four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, who is third
points and the defending TVS UDTRA Champion, and current UDTRA point leader
Steve Francis of Ashland, KY, who won at TVS in 1999. Rick Eckert of York,
PA is currently second in the UDTRA points chase.
Before arriving in Glenmora, LA, the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will travel
Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX for the $15,000-to-win Wolf Brand
Chilli Challenge on September 13. Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI is the
defending champion of the Wolf Brand Chilli Challenge, and Jimmy Mars of
Mound, WI won the UDTRA TMS event this season on March 31.
