Double Features and Double the Fun at TST!
Talladega, Al-Talladega Short Track featured double features for the largest
weekly racing event crowd of the year with a record 151 cars in the pits,
which was another weekly racing record at the 3/10's mile banked clay oval.
The refurbished North Talladega County oval has seen the largest car counts
ever during the 2001 season as well as an exponential increase in
Action for the Kilpatrick Chevrolet Super Late Models saw Oxford's Terry
Smith take his first feature win this year for the popular driver and former
TST Track Champion. Chris Mullinax, Ronnie Norton, Tim Roszell followed
Smith, as Jimmy Hiett completed the top five in the 24-car field. The second
feature event saw "The High Plains Drifter" Ted Lackey of Munford take win
in the 30-lap feature event over a 26-car field. Chris Mullinax was second
once again, followed by Terry Smith, Danny Peoples, and Ronnie Norton.
The Sportsman winner in the first feature was Oxford's Jeff Johns, with
second place going to the returning Richard Ogle, after a lengthy lay off
due to a broken arm. Gadsden's Kevin Tallant was third with Dingus Griffin
fourth and Stevie Waters in fifth. The second main event of the evening saw
young Jason Hiett of Anniston take the win over the 27-car starting field.
Another young gun Randall Walker was second with Kevin Tallant rounding out
the podium once again. R.D. Smith and Douglass Stewart completed the top
IMCA Modified features saw Anniston's Carl Hickman take his third win of the
year with Jamie Gowers second and Jeff Harry third. The second feature saw
Jamie Gowers take the win in his pursuit of the Clausen IMCA Gulf Coast
Region Championship with "Mean" Gene Mince second and Jeff Harry third in
the field of over 20 competitors.
The IMCA Stock Cars had Tommy Shelnut take the win in the first event with
Jeremy Hurst second and Steven Forsythe third. Charlie Chapman took the win
in the second main event with Hurst in pursuit and Adam Cummings in third.
The Pony Stock feature number one went to Jonathan Chapman with Mike Hodges
closely following in second and Tim Thorton in third. Odenville's Alan
Glaze took the second feature with Hodges in second again and Brian Burtram
The Heavy Metal Bombers had twin features as well with Robby Goodman taking
the first win with Kelly Stroud and Jerry Grier rounding out the top five.
The second main event for the Bomber was claimed by Goodman again with James
Stroud second and Michael Williamson in third.
The Cruiser wins were earned by the tandem of McCrelles and Elliot in the
first feature event and the team of Goble and Greenwood took the second win.
TST will be in action with a Full Racing Program this Saturday night as
Alabama's premier short track continues to prosper during the 2001 season.
