.M.C.A.'s Deery, Midwest & Modified series headed to Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa - There's nothing "fair" about this race program.
It'll be tremendous.
Three special series for I.M.C.A. competitors are on the state fair card Tuesday night, Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair-grounds Speedway in Des Moines.
Deery Brothers Summer Series for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Models and Midwest Motorsports Best of the Midwest Series for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Cars events have run on the same day during the fair on three occasions. This is the first time the two have shared billing with the National Modified Series.
Pit gates will open at 3 p.m., hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. and racing is at 6:30 p.m.
More information is available at (515) 249-3497.
Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., has the upper hand in the Deery points race. Webster City's Mark Elliott tops the point standings for the Midwest Series, which travels to Hancock County Speedway in Britt on Aug. 9.
The National Modified Series has two pre-Des Moines dates, this weekend at West Plains, Mo., Motor Speedway and also at Britt on Aug. 9. Brian Foote of Essex is the current points leader.
It's a safe bet that promoter Mick Trier won't have the same weather-related concerns this time around than when the Late Model and Stock Car series were scheduled to run at Des Moines back on March 30.
Six inches of snow fell during a late winter storm a week and a half earlier. Trier & Co. had the track ready, but lin-gering cold weather prevented them from being able to turn on water for the all-important restrooms and concession stands.
