CHRIS CARR LOOKS TO REPEAT AT HAGERSTOWN IN HOME DEPOT HUB-CITY CLASSIC
HAGERSTOWN, MD The 1999 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Grand
National Champion Chris Carr will be looking to repeat when the AMA
Progressive Insurance Grand National Track Series comes to the
Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, August 11th . Carr won the first race
at Hagerstown on June 16th and will be looking to close the gap on
points leader Joe Knopp in the Home Depot Hub-City Classic. Also on tap
will be the 883 Series. Gates will open at 4 P.M. with practice at 6
The Hagerstown Speedway's semi-banked half-mile is set to test the
talents of riders like Carr, who has been on fire lately logging
back-to-back wins at Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL and
Hagerstown. But defending AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat-Track
Champion Joe Kopp, 32, of Mica, Washington, is fresh off a big win at
Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, OK a couple of weeks ago. Kopp, who
rides for Corbin Harley-Davidson Team, should be a strong contender as
he looks for his first win at the half-mile oval at Hagerstown. Kopp
will have to contend with his teammate, Kenny Coolbeth Jr who finished a
close second in the last race.
One rider looking to take home the winner's share of the $40,000 purse
is last years winner Will Davis of Goldsboro, NC. Davis became only the
second rider to win three races at Hagerstown joining Steve Morehead of
Findlay, OH. Davis is currently fourth in points, right behind Kevin
Varnes of Pottstown, PA, the winner in 1995. Other riders gearing-up for
Saturday's race include Rich King of Dysart, IA, Mike Hacker of Prince
George, VA, Brett Landes of Los Gatos, CA, 1999 winner Jay Springsteen
of Lapeer, MI and local rider Paul Lynch of Bel Air MD.
