VINTAGE SUPER MODIFIED, COUPE & STOCK CAR EXHIBITION AT BELLEVILLE SATURDAY
BELLEVILLE, Kan. (July 27, 2001) - This Saturday, July 28, the Belleville
High Banks in Belleville, Kan., will present a unique and exciting display
for auto racing enthusiasts young and old.
Kicking off Belleville Speedweek, the first annual Vintage Super Modified,
Coupe & Stock Car Exhibition 2001 will feature many historic racing machines
from the past.
The all-day affair begins at 10 a.m. with vintage race cars on display at
the Belleville courthouse. Registration and safety inspection will be
available prior to, and during, the exhibition. "Bench racing" at the High
Banks Museum -- located at the courthouse square -- will follow.
At 4:30, an old-fashioned sack lunch will be available behind the Belleville
High Banks south grandstands. Then, from 5:30-6:30, The Hoge's will provide
vocal and instrumental entertainment in the Historical South Stone
Grandstand, which has stood in all it's glory since 1940.
Practice laps on the High Banks are scheduled from 6:30-7:30, culminating
with the vintage exhibition on the High Banks and competition on the short
track featuring drivers reproducing the sights and sounds of days-gone-by.
The $45 registration fee for exhibitors includes two wristbands for free
sack lunches and admission to the Belleville High Banks infield.
The Belleville High Banks, located in Belleville, Kan., is managed by a
volunteer racing committee that host 10-12 racing events annually. "The
World's Fastest Half-Mile Dirt Track" allows drivers the rare opportunity to
run "wide open" the entire track, and the sweeping oval is one of the most
demanding test of endurance and skill for drivers. The track's mainstay is
the annual Belleville Midget Nationals, held every year during the first
weekend in August. As the nation's most prestigious midget car race of the
year, the best equipment, owners and drivers flock to the small rural
community of 3,500, which is transformed into a racing Mecca of more than
30,000 people each August.
