The Cleveland Speedway is getting ready to host the Southern All-Stars for 11th annual "Budweiser: Jean Johnson Memorial" race Saturday night July 21st. The event will be a one night $5,000 to win, 60 lap race and is the first time the touring series has come back to the track since March's "Shamrock Race". The local Cleveland Speedway Super Late Model racers will take on such touring series regulars as: current points leader Rex Richey of Ringgold GA (a part-time instructor at the Cleveland Speedway racing School), reigning S.A.S. series champion Clint Smith of Senoia GA and reigning S.A.S. Rookie of the Year Paul Tims of Georgetown TN. The defending race champion John Jones is also expected to defend his title at the July 21st event. This coming weekend's (July 14th) event the local Cleveland Speedway SLM racers will be running under the S.A.S. series rules, using this Saturday night as a Test-N-Tune in preparation for the S.A.S. event in two weeks. Some of the local Cleveland Speedway racers expected to be in competition for the S.A.S. race include: current track points leader David Smith of Chattanooga, reigning track champion Andy Dill of Georgetown and two of the current track rookie SLM competitors James Gamble of Ooltewah TN, and young 15 year old Todd Morrow of Old Fort TN.
