UDTRA MIDWEST TOUR CONTINUES FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IN NORTH VERNON, IN
NORTH VERNON, IN - The United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar
Series Midwest Tour continues this Friday and Saturday night when the top
dirt late model drivers in the country visit Twin Cities Raceway Park for
pair of one night shows.
Friday night's program will be the first visit ever for the UDTRA Pro
DirtCar Series to Twin Cities Raceway Park, and it will consist of a 50-lap
$10,000-to-win main event. The Saturday night show will be highlighted
75-lap $15,000-to-win main event.
The defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN will be looking for his third straight UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series win
Friday night. Bloomquist took Saturday night's 3rd Annual Masters 100 in
New Richmond, WI, and the Shawano, WI win on Monday night.
With two wins in Bristol, TN, Bloomquist has won four of the last six UDTRA
Pro DirtCar Series events to bring his career win total to 82. He has five
wins on the season and is third in the UDTRA point standings in trying to
keep pace with point leader Rick Eckert of York, PA and Steve Francis of
Ashland, KY. Bloomquist is 342 points behind Eckert.
Eckert with three wins this season holds a 107-point lead over Francis,
despite not having won a UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series event yet this season,
21 top ten finishes in the first 23 events. Eckert is the only driver this
season to have completed every possible lap of competition with 1,210.
The 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA used a second place
finish in Shawano, WI on Monday night to leap frog his way from seventh
to fourth in the point standings. McDowell is 231 points behind Bloomquist,
but he has some close company right on his tail. Just 155 points separates
fourth from tenth in the UDTRA points chase.
Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI has one win this season and is fifth in
points, just eight points behind McDowell. Wendell Wallace of Batesville,
AR has two victories and is sixth in points, 18 behind Schlieper. Wallace
is trying to keep his streak of finishing in the top five in UDTRA points
alive, a feat he has pulled off unprecedented for the past five seasons.
Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI has two wins and is eighth in points, 24 points
behind Wallace. The 1997 UDTRA Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR
dropped from fifth to eighth in points after missing his first race of the
season in Shawano, WI. Moyer took a win early in the season.
Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC is ninth, just two points behind Moyer, and the
1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN rounds out the top ten
the UDTRA points chase, 43 points behind Cook.
Other top UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series regulars expected this weekend at Twin
Cities Raceway Park include UDTRA Rookie of the Year point leader Joe Izzo
of LaSalle, IL, Steve Boley of West Liberty, IA, and Rick Aukland of
Several top Hoosier State drivers are expected to give the UDTRA traveling
pros some tough competition. Drivers expected to try and keep the big money
on Indiana soil include Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN, John Gill of
Mitchell, IN, along with Franklin, IN drivers Steve Barnett and Greg
Each night the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will compete in qualifications,
Borla Performance Heat Races, the Renegade Transporters and Polaris ATVs
Consolation Races, and the main event, 50 laps and $10,000-to-win on Friday
night, and 75 laps and $15,000-to-win on Saturday night.
Along with the UDTRA Pro DirtCars, the Twin Cities Raceway Park Street
Stocks will also be in action. Each day the pit gate opens at 1 p.m., the
grandstand gate opens at 3 p.m., and hot laps are scheduled for 6 p.m.
The UDTRA Official Host Hotel for the Twin Cities Raceway Park event will
the Ramada Inn in Columbus, IN, located at I-65 and State Road 46 at exit
76, just 20 minutes from the track. The Ramada Inn is welcoming UDTRA fans
