Author Topic:   HOOSIER TIRES MID-ATLANTIC ARMEL MEMORIAL RESCHEDULED FOR JULY 7TH

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Promoter Frank Plessinger and the Hagerstown Speedway
will host the 21st and final running of the Tony Armel Memorial on
Saturday night, July 7th . Rescheduled from June 23rd, the 50-lap
memorial is the longest and most prestigious race on the schedule for
the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman division. Joining
the sportsman will be the ITSI late models, Ernie's Salvage Yard pure
stocks 4 cylinders and the 30-car/30-lap enduro dash. Race time is 7
P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M. Adult general admission is $10 with
children under 12 FREE.

The late model sportsman 50-lap event will be the main attraction on
Saturday and is held each year in memory of Tony Armel, who was killed
in a work related accident. The Armel Memorial will carry double points
and an increased payoff.

Defending race champion Marvin Winters of Mercersburg, PA will be
looking for his second Armel Memorial. Although Winters has won five of
seven feature events, the battle for the track championship is still
wide open. With double points on the line, a lot of changes can take
place. Winters is not only looking for his second straight Armel
Memorial win, he is also is looking for his second consecutive late
model sportsman title. Winters hopes to increase his 68 point lead over
Barry Miller. Six-time Armel Memorial winner Wayne Walls Jr. is third 77
points back with Mike Walls and Robert Friese rounding out the top five.

Ernie Davis won the inaugural Armel Memorial in 1981 and again in 1987.
Other winners include Dave Wilt, 1982, 83; Les Hare, 1985; Super
Sportsman Standout Danny Hager, 1985; Roger Watkins, 1986; Wayne Walls
Jr. 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998; Brad Boyer, 1990; Brent Smith,
1991; Nathan Durboraw, 1992; Alan Sagi, 1993; Jeremy Miller, 1997;
Richard Clipp, 1999 and Marvin Winters, 2000.

In addition to the late model sportsman, there will be complete
programs of qualifying and feature events for the late models, pure
stocks and 4-cyl pure stocks. The 30-car/30-lap enduro dash for amateur
drivers will round out the evening program.

JULY'S SCHEDULE AT HAGERSTOWN HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERY RACE FAN

HAGERSTOWN, MD - With the month of June nearly a washout, the Hagerstown
Speedway is looking to get back on track with a great schedule of
professional stock car racing lined-up for July. The schedule for July
is loaded with special events for every type of race fan.

On July 7th, it will be the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic Tony Armel
Memorial rescheduled from June 23rd. The 50-lap race is the richest and
most prestigious race of the year for the late model sportsman division.
Also on the schedule will be the late models, pure stocks and
30-lap/30-car enduro dash. Race time is 7 P.M. with gates opening at 5
P.M. Adult general admission is $10. Children under 12 are FREE.

The following weekend, Hagerstown will be in action with a big two
night show on Friday and Saturday nights, July 13th & 14th. On Friday
night, it will be the 54th Anniversary Program featuring the 50-lap
STARS Renegade late models. The 50-lap event will pay $8,000-to-win.
Joining the late models will be the 4-cyl. pure stocks. Adult admission
is $18 with children under 12 FREE. Gates will open at 5 P.M. with
racing at 8 P.M.

Hagerstown will come right back with the Industrial Towel & Supply Inc
(ITSI) 6th Annual Maryland Silver Cup National on Saturday night, July
14th. A $52,000 purse, the largest of the year has been posted for the
50-lap UDTRA late models with $10,000 going the winner. Joining the
UDTRA late models will be the late model sportsman and the pure stocks.
Race time is 7 P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M.

DODGE presents the USHRA.COM Monster Jam by Budweiser on Friday and
Saturday nights, July 20th & 21st. Monster trucks scheduled to compete
include Grave Digger, Goldberg, Black Stallion, Thrasher, Gunslinger and
Wrenchead. Show time each night is 8 P.M.

The Pennzoil World of Outlaws will join with the KARS 358 sprints in an
open wheel doubleheader on Saturday night, July 28th. Race time is 8
P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M.

Industrial Towel & Supply Inc. is the corporate sponsor of the late
models, Hoosier Tires/Mid-Atlantic sponsors the late model sportsman
divisions and the pure stocks receive support from Ernie's Salvage Yard.
