NHL CHAMPION AVALANCHE PLAYER ERIC MESSIER TO APPEAR AT LEBANON VALLEY ALPIN
HAUS AUTOGRAPH ALLEY JUNE 28TH

JUNE 20, 2001
WEST LEBANON, NY - The Stanley Cup is not coming to Lebanon Valley Speedway,
but one of the men responsible for the Cup going to Colorado will. Left wing
Eric Messier, a member of the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, will
take part in the Alpin Haus Autograph Alley, to be held prior to the I Love
New York 358 Modified Championship at Lebanon Valley Speedway on Thursday,
June 28.
Messier will join Winston Cup crew chief Greg Zipadelli and
broadcasters Jack Arute and Mike Joy in the blockbuster autograph session.
Messier, a native of Drummondville, Que., may not get the recognition of
teammates Patrick Roy, Chris Drury, Joe Sakic or Ray Bourque, but his
background is just as colorful. Before getting into pro hockey, Messier's
first job was on a **** delivery truck. And while most pro hockey players are
well known by pro scouts as teenagers, Messier was discovered while playing
in a roller hockey league in Montreal.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, who started his professional career as a
defenseman, suffered a broken bone in his leg in a game against the
Pittsburgh Penguins in February this year, but was back in the lineup by
April and helped the Avalanche win their second Stanley Cup. He finished the
2001 season with five goals and seven assists in 64 games, and has
accumulated 16 goals and 27
assists in 239 career games as a checking line winger.
The Alpin Haus Autograph Alley will be a prelude to one of the biggest
nights in area stock racing history, as the 100-lap I Love New York 358
Modified Championship will pay at least $13,020. Making it the largest payoff
ever for a 358 modified race at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Advanced tickets are on sale now through the Speedway Ticket Office
and plenty of seating will be available the day of the show. Reserved seats
are just $22 with Adult General Admission $20. Kids under 12 are just "Five
Bucks!" Call the speedway Ticket Hotlines Today (518) 794-9606 or (518)
794-9965.
