hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour
Returns to Yakima and Portland

The "hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour" returns to the tracks of the 2001
season's opening weekend with Jayme Barnes leading the points race for the
championship by a slim margin of only seven points.
When the Northwest's fastest 360 sprint racers take to State Fair Raceway's
dirt oval in Yakima, WA this Friday, June 22nd, the young Everett, WA driver
will be trying his best to fend off the charges of second place driver Roger
Crockett of Rio Linda, CA and the rest of the racers.
In a season that has yet to see a repeat win, the action has been
close, fast
and exciting regardless of the size or condition of the track. From quarter
mile to half mile, tacky or dry slick, winning a race has not come easy to any driver.
As Barnes leads the pack with 342 points, he is followed by Crockett with
335, three time champ Shawna Wilskey has 316, Jay R Harkness of Bellingham, WA
with 266 and Barry Martinez of Lynnwood, WA fills the top five with 263.
Both Barnes and Wilskey go into the weekend after coming off of preliminary
night wins at last weeks Dirt Cup, sure to give them added confidence.
In the season opener, Crockett set fast time and placed second to Jason
Solwold on the State Fair Raceway three-eights mile oval, leaving no doubt he
is a threat to win. With additional 3rd and 4th place finishes, and another
fast time, Crockett may well have had the points lead had he not missed the
feature event at Willamette Speedway.
When the tour travels to Portland Speedway in Portland, OR on Saturday the
23rd, Barnes is sure to be looking for a repeat of his May 12th win on the red
clay, high speed half mile oval. Another driver also looking for a repeat win
at Portland will be Dan Menne of Ft. Jones, CA. Menne picked up his first
hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour at Portland last year.
Other drivers that liked the Portland track in May were Great Falls,
MT's hot
shoe Richie Peterson, Dale Smith of Cottage Grove, OR and Tim Levin out of
Marysville, WA who finished 2nd, 3rd and 5th.
The second half of the top 10 reads Jason Solwold of Burlington, WA
with 248
points, Peterson with 233, Jeremy Cooper of Creswell, OR wit 209, Everett,
WA's Rick Fauver with 206 and Canada's Scott Aumen of Duncan, BC at 199
While 79 points separate 1st and 5th, there are only 49 points between 6th
and 10th, showing the tightness of the series.
Fast paced action and exciting racing is the easy prediction for the
up-coming hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour races. What isn't easy is
predicting a winner. As Barry Martinez said after his Willamette Speedway win,
"There are at least 15 cars out there every race that are easily capable of
winning. Anyone that gets to the winners circle earns it."
