By Mike Leone
June 8, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mercer, PA.Coming up Saturday, June 16 at Mercer Raceway Park will be Jr.
Fan Night. A complete show of Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, Bolland
Machine Big-Block Modifieds, New Castle School of Trades Sportsman
Modifieds, and Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars will also be on tap.
This year's Jr. Fan Night should be the biggest kids' night in the 50-year
history of the track. Highlighting the night will be a special appearance by
the famous "Rugrats". Celebrating their 10th anniversary, kids will have a
rare opportunity to meet Chuckie, Tommy, and Angelica from the popular
Nickelodeon show. The Aut Mori Grotto Clowns return for the third straight
year to entertain the kids as well.
McElwain Family of Dealerships return to present the third of five
installments of "Meet Your Hero" Night. The Sportsman Modified division will
be highlighted this night. The Sportsman Modified drivers will have their
race cars behind the grandstands prior to racing for an autograph and
picture session. The first 300 kids will receive a free color custom card
for autographs when they enter the gates, and all kids 12 and under will
also receive a free treat bag.
Parents will want to make sure the kids bring their bicycles for the first
of two bike races held this year. During intermission, kids will have the
opportunity to race on the same track that their heroes do. Helmets are
required to compete.
"This is our third year for Jr. Fan Night," said owner Vicki Emig. "We have
been able to make it bigger and better each year as the whole night is
structured around the kids. We want it to be an enjoyable night for the
kids- one that they will look forward to each year."
We will be opening the grandstand gates one-half hour earlier at 4 p.m.
Racing will still begin at 6:30 p.m. Mom and dad need to take advantage of
the family pass and bring four kids along with them for just $23. For more
