Mahoning Valley Scrappers Night set for Saturday at Mercer

By Mike Leone

Mercer, PA.Mercer Raceway Park will swing back into action this Saturday
night, June 9 with a complete program of Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint
Cars, Bolland Machine Big-Block Modifieds, New Castle School of Trades
Sportsman Modifieds, and Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars.

With summer nearly upon us, the summer family promotions begin this Saturday
night with Mahoning Valley Scrappers Night. The Scrappers have come aboard
in 2001 as one of our marketing partners. Little League Night has been
expanded thanks to the Scrappers and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company.
Besides all little leaguers in jersey admitted free, 100 tickets will be
given away for fans to attend one of the Scrappers' home games free of
charge. We will be distributing 300 official Rawlings baseballs to the
youngsters. Also, the Scrappers' mascot, "Scrappy", will be entertaining the
kids throughout the night.

"We wanted to do something different than the typical little league night
that every track has every year," said owner Vicki Emig. "The whole night
will encompass a baseball theme for fans of all ages."

Spectator gates will open at 4:30 and racing will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults. Students 6-15 are $5. Our Family Pass is just
$23 for mom, dad, and up to four kids. Those five and under are admitted
free. For more information call 724-964-9300 or check out

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have quickly become an exciting attraction for
people in the Mahoning and Shenango Valley regions after just two seasons of
existence. Based in Niles, Ohio, the Class A Cleveland Indians minor league
affiliate plays its home games at the beautiful Cafaro Field located just
behind the Eastwood Mall. The Scrappers' season begins June 19 and runs
through September 5. For more information check out
