posted May 18, 2001 06:28 PM Some great racing from the Tennessee Valley area's top dirt Super Late Model racers is expected to take place this weekend in Round #8 of the 2001 Season Championship at Clecveland Speedway. David Smith (#22D) of Chattanooga leads the track championship points standings by 106 points over Kent Hicks (#15) of Cleveland. Smith has lacked in the "w" dept. despite strong finishes weekly (so far this season finishing in the top ten five of eight events) at the speedway. Hicks has one win under his belt and has just broken away from a tie in the points with now fifth place contender Lamar Scoggins (#32) of Georgetown, who seems to be the toughest this season with two wins to his credit despite a couple of absenses. Randy Burrows (#95) of Chattanooga is third in the points and is a crowd fav of the dark horses to win his first ever SLM feature sometime this season. Mike Tinker (#22) of Ringgold GA has moved up to fourth in the points ratings just 5 pts. ahead of Scoggins. Others including reigning track champion Andy Dill (#39) of Georgetown has three "w"'s this season and currently sits eighth in the standings. Maryville TN's Brad Coffey (#3) has been making headway weekly attempting to become a longrange "Brute Squad" member. Tim Richardson (#01) of Chattanooga is just behind Coffey in the standings (by 1 pt) with Shawn Chastain (#11) of Murphy NC, and reigning CS Rookie of the Year John Owenby (#J32) of Cleveland round out the top ten in the standings.
