1ST 2001 OPEN PRACTICE AT BIG DIAMOND THIS TUESDAY NIGHT
FANS ADMITTED FREE, ALL DIVISIONS WELCOME

Minersville, PA - Big Diamond Raceway will hold their first mid-week open
practice session this Tuesday night, May 8, starting at 7 PM. The test
session is open to the track's weekly Modified Stock Cars, Sportsman Stock
cars and Roadrunners as well at other classes that may or may not be
scheduled to appear at the speedway this season such as Super Sportsman, Late
Model Stocks, Street Stocks and Sprint Cars.
Plans call for hot lapping on the banked, 3/8th-mile oval to start at 7
PM and tentatively end at 9:30 PM. The session may be extended if necessary
to 10 PM. The main spectator gates will also be open with concessions open
with a limited menu being available. As this is the first open practice night
to be held at the track, fans will be admitted FREE to the spectator areas.
"This is quite different than the semi-private, test and tune sessions
scheduled by Mike Clay at the speedway last season," commented track general
manager JoAnn Roehrig. "There is no high per car fee , no membership required
and no restriction on the number of competitors that may take advantage of
this opportunity. There will be a $15 dollar pit fee per person with
insurance carried for a normal hot lap session with multiple cars of the same
class on the track at the same time.
"We hope to offer drivers needing more on-track experience a greater
opportunity than they get during a Friday racing card. Also there are many
teams seeking the right set-up with new or rebuilt equipment that will
benefit from the track time."
NASCAR licenses will not be required for pit admittance to this open
practice but track or racing organization licenses may be used as one form of
two identifications that will be required for entry to the pit areas. No
minors will be allowed in the pit areas as per normal Big Diamond track
requirements.
Racing at Big Diamond next Friday night, May 11, will be Kreiser Fuels'
Tremont Quick Stop Night with the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds,
NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman and NASCAR Roadrunners participating in full
cards. As an added bonus the Sportsman will also have their consolation and
feature delayed from April 20 added to the card giving them a unique
doubleheader yielding a four feature card.
