Mercer, PA. Former sprint car great and current TNN color commentator, Brad
Doty, will appear with his famous Coors Light "Silver Bullet" #18 sprint car
at Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, May 12 for Brad Doty Night to meet and
greet the fans for autographs and pictures.
"I'm really looking forward to coming to Mercer on May 12," said Doty via a
phone conversation earlier in the week. "Western Pa. is like a second home
to me, and the fans there have always treated me real well."
The appearance by the Apple Creek, Ohio resident coupled with the sprint car
will be the first ever of its kind in the east. Only on one other occasion
has Doty appeared with the car at a speedway.
"We are thrilled to be able to bring Brad to Mercer Raceway Park just before
his induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame," said track owner
Vicki Emig. "The night has gotten a lot of good response, and it's something
nice we can do for our fans."
Doty will be signing autographs from 4:30-6:30 p.m. behind the grandstands
in the midway area. He will have his latest merchandise available for sale
including his autobiography, Still Wide Open.
Doty became a fan favorite in the region after winning championships at the
nearby Lernerville and Tri-City Speedways along with winning the Western Pa.
Cavalcade Championship in 1980.
In the years that followed, Doty won events with three of the biggest sprint
car sanctions in the nation: the All Stars, the World of Outlaws, and USAC.
He became a fan favorite and one of the most popular sprint car drivers in
the nation. It seemed his career was ready to take off, but it all came to a
grinding halt on a warm summer night, July 23, 1988, at Eldora Speedway in
Rossburg, Ohio. In seconds, Doty went from hopes of a $50,000 payday to
Today, Doty can be seen live in the booth on TNN doing the color commentary
