NINE OF TEN 2001 UDTRA WINNERS SET FOR PRESTONSBURG, KY AND CHILLICOTHE,
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WOODSTOCK, GA - There have been 10 different winners in the first 12 races
of the 2001 United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series season.
Nine of those winners are set to do battle this weekend at Thunder Ridge
Speedway in Prestonsburg, KY this Friday night and at K-C Raceway in
Chillicothe, OH on Saturday night.
UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series point leader and Volusia Speedway Park winner
Eckert of York, PA heads the entry list. East Bay Raceway winner, Billy
Moyer of Batesville, AR, who is third in the UDTRA points chase, will also
be on hand.
The defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN is fresh off his first win of the season, and the 78th of his career,
last Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC. The win vaulted
Bloomquist up to fifth in the UDTRA point standings.
Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR is also entered in this weekend's UDTRA
action. Wallace is sixth in the UDTRA point standings after a win in
Cochran, GA last Friday night. Texas Motor Speedway winner Jimmy Mars of
Elk Mound, WI will also make the trip to Kentucky and Ohio this weekend.
Mars is seventh in UDTRA points.
The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN won the season opener
in Brunswick, GA in February, and will begin this weekend's events just
points out of the top ten in UDTRA points.
Chub Frank of Sugar Grove, PA has two UDTRA wins this season, coming two
weeks ago in Savannah, GA and Fayetteville, NC. Frank has missed the last
two UDTRA events, and dropped from fourth to 12th in points. He'll be
looking to make up lost ground this weekend to get back in the top ten.
East Bay Winternationals Champion Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV looked
like a championship contender early in the season, and worked his way up
third in the points chase. Shaver has missed the last four UDTRA events,
and has dropped to 16th in the point standings. Shaver will be looking
pick up his early season success this weekend.
Davey Johnson of Greensburg, PA has two UDTRA wins in seven starts this
season. Johnson also has two other top five finishes, which will make him
contender to raise his win total this weekend.
There are five drivers in the UDTRA top ten in points that are still looking
for their first win of the season.
Steve Francis of Ashland, KY leads that list, and is second in the point
standings. Francis will be returning to the site of his last UDTRA win
he gave Mopar its first ever UDTRA win at Thunder Valley Speedway in
September of last season. Francis took the win after an exciting battle
with Bloomquist while the two were battling for the 2000 UDTRA championship.
Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI is over due for a victory, but steady
performances in the first dozen UDTRA events have him fourth in the points
chase. The 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA moved up
eighth spot in the UDTRA point standings with a couple of strong runs last
Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC is ninth in points, and Terry English of Benton,
KY is tenth in points. English has been in the top ten in UDTRA points
since the beginning of the season.
Other top entries expected this weekend include UDTRA Rookie of the Year
point leader Joe Izzo of LaSalle, IL, Randy Korte of Highland, IL, Steve
Boley of West Liberty, IA, and former UDTRA East Bay Winternationals
Champion Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IL.
The Friday schedule of events at Thunder Ridge Speedway will have the pit
gate opening at 1 p.m., and the front grandstand gate opening at 5 p.m.
UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by
qualifying, heat races, consolation races, and a 50-lap $10,000-to-win main
event. Thunder Ridge Speedway will also present the UMP Modifieds.
The Holiday Inn at 575 U.S. Highway 23 S. in Prestonsburg, KY will be the
Official Host Hotel for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series event at Thunder Ridge
Speedway. The Holiday Inn will be offering UDTRA fans and competitors a
special discount rate of $68.00 per night.

On Saturday night at K-C Raceway, the UDTRA Pro DirtCars will make their
first-ever appearance on the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval.
Francis, Johnson, Frank and Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH are former STARS
Series Champions, and with that series making several appearances at K-C
Raceway through the years, those drivers along with other former STARS
regular Eckert are familiar with the track.
The pit gate opens Saturday at 1 p.m., and the front grandstand gate opens
at 4 p.m. UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.,
followed by qualifying, heat races, consolation races, and a 50-lap
$10,000-to-win main event.

the UDTRA Official Host Hotel for the K-C Raceway event. The Country Hearth
