This Saturday night (April 7th) the Cleveland Speedway hosts its
first special event for the local racing divisions, the second annual "Spring
Fling Championship" for the Claimer Late Model class. Defending race champion
James Gamble (# 27) of Ooltewah TN won't be in contention as he'll be racing
in the Super Late Model division's 30 lap feature, in which he is viaing for
the 2001 Cleveland Speedway Rookie of the Year title. Last years runner up
Cleveland's P.D. Doss (# 1) is a strong candidate for this years checkers, as
is Nick Yancy (# Y7)of Soddy Daisy TN, whose already visited Cleveland
Speedway victory lane this season. Double point accumulations for the CLM
feature will be in effect for this weekends special race. After last weekends
first points event, winner Glen Seaton III (# 92) of Cleveland holds the
divisions points lead, followed closely by fellow Cleveland-er Chris Powell
(# P9) and Whitwell TN racer Mike Krizonavic (# 10). Chattanoogian's Chad
Anderson (# 17) and Elgin Gray (# 32) are also expected to fare well in this
weekends event, based on last weekend's outcome. Racing gets underway shortly
after 6PM with gates opening about 4PM. For more information call the track
office at (423)479-8574, during regular business hours.
