I-81 Motorsports Park makes the move to Friday night
By Robert Walden
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (April 2) – After taking this past weekend off, I-81 Motorsports Park cranks back up this Friday, April 6 with an exciting seven-division racing program at the 3/8-mile dirt oval. With this event the track is now switching to its normal Friday night of racing, this after hosting its first two races of 2001 on Saturdays.
The return of the Late Models after a three year absence to complement the already exciting racing program at I-81 last week, was accepted favorably by both the fans and the number of East Tennessee race teams who showed up to support the track. So, the Late Models will be back this Friday, along with the UMP (Open-Wheel) Modifieds, Super Stock, Sportsman, Mini Stock, Hobby Stock and Modified Lites, to round out the racing lineup.
"Quite a few drivers and fans had expressed an interest in seeing the exciting Late Models return to I-81 Motorsports Park," said Race Director Tim Carver. "We decided to give them a shot during the NASCAR weekend at Bristol, and we had a really good car and fan turnout. I don't believe you will find anyone who was present who could say the Late Models didn't put on a great show. Really, the entire night of racing was something else.
"We're now making the switch to our normal Friday night of racing, and we just hope our fan following will continue to come out and support us. We're doing our best to give them a good night of family-oriented entertainment."
Gates will open on Friday, April 6 at 5 p.m., with hot laps scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by qualifying and heat races at 7 p.m., and feature racing set for 8 o’clock.
Grandstand admission for adults is $10, children 12-and-under admitted free, with all pit passes $20. I-81 Motorsports Park is located off Exit 44, Jearaldstown Road.
