Merrittville Speedway?s 50th Anniversary
Thorold, Ontario....The 50th Anniversary of Merrittville Speedway coincides with the 100th Year of Motorsport racing in Canada - the hottest season of racing this side of the border gets off to a start with Merrittville?s annual practice day for all divisions set to run on Saturday April 14th - gates open at noon. Saturday April 21st is the season opener for Sportsmen, Pro Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Saturday April 28th is ribbon cutting night as we officially mark the start of our 50th anniversary with the season opener for the modifieds plus a full card of racing and a small car demolition derby.
ATTENTION MERRITTVILLE MODIFIED & SPORTSMAN DRIVERS: Through the efforts of Performance Security (Gary Kruchka), Merrittville Speedway will be implementing a one-way radio system for the 2001 racing season. This is exactly what it says ? a ONE WAY RADIO. This one-way radio system will allow the race director to be in one-way contact with modified & sportsmen drivers - the system will take effect Saturday June 2nd, 2001.
Gary Kruchka of Performance Security will have systems and accessories for sale and/or rent in the pits on race nights. Please call Gary Kruchka or Performance Security toll free in Canada or the US 1-800-886-5259 to get set up. On April 14th practice, there will be systems available to try out and buy.
$72,000 is the magic number on July 2nd when Azurix North America presents the biggest event on Canadian Dirt ? 358 Modified Triple 50 Event ? Also up for grabs is a $10,000 bonus to the driver who can win all three 50 lappers.
Merrittville Speedway?s reunion efforts are in full swing and Reunion Night is set for Saturday July 21st ? if you have any memorabilia (pictures, news clippings etc.), please contact the Speedway Office. On September 22nd, Merrittville Speedway will host the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame as well as the CMRHS as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Racing in Canada - which incidentally began on September 26th, 1901 in Fort Erie. To help commemorate that occasion, vintage racers will be displayed. Also scheduled that night is the 50 lap UFPO Dig Safely Sportsmen Super DIRT Series event plus 25 lap events for Pro Stocks, Street Stocks and Dwarf Cars.
Stars of the future can get geared up with our annual kart program running every Tuesday night at Merrittville Speedway ? season opener is set for May 1st. Annual kart meeting and registration is Sunday April 22nd, 3pm at the Merritton Community Arena (upstairs).
