KEITH HOFFMAN PREPARED TO DEFEND BIG DIAMOND CROWN

Minersville, PA - (March 25, 2001) - There is no question, defending Big
Diamond champion,
Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, PA is serving notice that NASCAR Weekly Racing
Series
Modified teams looking to contend for the 2001 Big Diamond Raceway track
championship will
need to prove they can take it from him.
Hoffman already has several Big Block Modified and Modified races under
his belt this year
in preparation for the Big Diamond's 2001 Opening Day this Sunday afternoon,
April 1. The
opener will feature a big triple header program of NASCAR stock car racing.
Qualifying heats
are scheduled to get underway at 2 PM for the NASCAR WRS Modifieds, NASCAR
ShorTrack
Sportsman and NASCAR Roadrunners. Warm-ups are slated to get underway at
around 1:30.
"I was extremely happy to hear that Big Diamond signed on again with
NASCAR," stated
Hoffman. "I'm looking forward to defending my title and taking the NASCAR
Weekly Racing
Series Regional title."
Keith returns with Barry Bashore's #5 NASCAR Modified team which posts a
strong list of
sponsors led by Bashore Trucking of Bethel, PA. Kauffman's Barbeque Chicken,
Boltz Drywall,
Wenger's of Myerstown, WayHar Farms, Troyer Inc., Hoffman Brothers Speed
Parts and AFCO
Shocks are also lending their support to the team's title defense.
"We are returning with a 2001 Troyer 4-Link car but our motor program
has changed to Pat
Morrison Racing Engines, who also does our Big Block and 358 gas motors,"
continued
Hoffman. "After have a full year of working with the Troyer 4-Link car, I
think our team will be
stronger in the win column this year and we need wins to contend for the
NASCAR's regional
and national Weekly Racing Series titles as well as the track championship."
The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds should be particularly
competitive this
season at Big Diamond. Among the expected challengers to Keith Hoffman's
title defense are
Jeff Strunk (Bethel, PA), Duane Howard (Oley, PA), Terry Meitzler (Kutztown,
PA), Craig Von
Dohren (Barto, PA), Dennis Bailey (Kutztown, PA), Ray Swinehart
(Bechtelsville, PA), Kyle
Weiss (Hamburg, PA) and Jim Hauer (Lebanon, PA).
Following the April 1 season opener, Big Diamond Raceway has another
Sunday
afternoon show slated for April 8 featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman and
Roadrunners. The
track remains dark for the Easter weekend before shifting to a weekly Friday
night format on
April 20 for the remainder of the year with an 8 PM starting time.
