2001 is upon us and it won't be long until the roar of engines and the smell
of burning rubber fills the air. But before another season of activities gets
started at the Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas for the 50th season, first
things first. The annual Car Show at the Manassas Mall is this weekend for 3
days. Friday thru Sunday, come out and see up close and personal the cars and
drivers that will compete at ODS in the upcoming season. Drivers and cars
scheduled to appear are NASCAR Weekly Racing Series track champ Mark
McFarland, and 2-time Grand Stock champ Tom Dyson, along with over 20 more
cars and drivers, including the popular Legends cars and drag cars. Also on
display throughout the weekend will be the Champ Karts, Mini Cup, and new
this season, the Pro Trucks that will compete in the BDE Racing Series. On
Wednesday night, March 21st, Hooters of Manassas host the "Race Into Hooters"
promotion, featuring cars and karts on display, along with contests with
prizes going to the winners. Sunday, March 25th will be a test and tune for
the Champ Karts, Mini Cups, and Pro Trucks. Practice begins for the "big
boys," on Saturday, March 31st, with an open practice for ALL divisions.
Another practice is scheduled for April 7th, along with the first ever
"Legends Only" event scheduled for later that evening. Then on April 14th,
Old Dominion Speedway opens the gates for the 50th season, with a 100 lap
Late Model race. Check out the Old Dominion Speedway website for more details.
