Iowa State Fair Speedway Practice Day - March 24th

(Des Moines, Iowa) The unofficial opening of the 2001 racing season
at the Iowa State Fair Speedway is Saturday, March 24th as the track
is available for practice and registration. Pit gates will open at
10:00 am with on track practice between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Cars
and drivers will be able to take to the track to test and modify
their setups.
Drivers will be able to register with the track and obtain car
numbers for the season and IMCA memberships. Track officials will be
pumping hobby stocks for cubic inches and then sealing the motors so
that a driver will not need to be tested before or after feature
racing events. The cost of a pit pass on practice day is $7.00.
On the same day, the Des Moines Auto Racing Association is
hosting Fan Appreciation Day at the Steer and Stine restaurant next
to the track. Prior to the start of practice, a variety of race
cars will be on display just inside the pits for fans to see. Racing
competition begins on Friday March 30th with a special show featuring
several traveling series - the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA
Late Models, the Best of the Midwest Series for IMCA stock cars and
the National Kidney Foundation Heartland Tour for a Cure modifieds
and hobby stocks.
