HAGERSTOWN, MD - HAGERSTOWN CANCELS GRAND OPENING DUE TO SLEET AND SNOW.
Heavy storms along the entire Eastern Seaboard with the freezing rain
and snow has forced Promoter Frank Plessinger to cancel the Grand Opener
for its regular divisions. The Grand Opening Show for the Late Model,
Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks and 4 Cylinders will not be
rescheduled. The next regular show for all four divisons is scheduled
for Sunday March 18th. Hagerstown will try to get the 2001 season
underway with the Big Block Modified and Late Models next Sunday March
We hope all our fans and race crews can weather this storm to join us
Next Sunday March 11th for the Octoberfest Qualifier. The Modifieds and
Late Models will compete in a 30 lap feature paying $2000 to win, plus
there will be a combo relay race. In addition to Sunday's prize money,
the feature winners of each division will also receive a guaranteed
starting spot in the Octoberfest 350 on October 27-28. Each 100-lap
feature in the Octoberfest will pay $10,000 to win. The Modified winner
will also be the Syracuse Qualifier for the 200 lap race at the New York
State Fairground in October.
Fans will enjoy seeing the Combo Relay Race. The late model drivers
will be partnered up with a modified driver to compete in the first ever
of its kind race here at Hagerstown Speedway. The modified drivers will
race the first 15-laps and then their late model partners will drive the
last 15 laps with the late model driver coming across the finish line
first splitting the $2,000 prize money with his modified partner. This
will join fans from both divisions to root for their favorite drivers
plus their partners to take the checkered flag. Race time is 1:30 P.M.
with gates opening at 11 A.M. Warm-ups begin at 1:00 P.M.
The Big Block Modifieds will then return again on Saturday, March 31th
for the DIRT sanctions 100 lap feature and share a double-header program
with the late models in a very exciting show.
On Sunday March 18th you will see the Late Models, Late Model
Sportsman, Pure Stock and 4 Cylinders on the track for the first time
this season. Race time is 1:30 P.M. with gates opening at 11 A.M.
Warm-ups begin at 1:00 P.M. Cost is just $9 for adults and Pit
Insurance is $15.
