UTICA-ROME KICKS OFF 358-MODIFIED AND SPORTSMAN SUPER DIRT SERIES
VERNON, NY Ė The 2001 editions of the 28 race Sunoco Race Fuels 358-Modified Super DIRT Series and the 18 race UFPO "Dig Safely" Sportsman Super DIRT Series will be kicked off on Motherís Day Sunday May 13 at the Utica-Rome Speedway.
Motherís Day will begin the long road of crowning the 2001 season Mr. DIRT 358-Modified and Mr. DIRT Sportsman Champions. Utica-Romeís regulars will have quite a challenge on hand as they try to defend their home turf from the invading DIRT stars in the NICE Ní EASY GROCERY SHOPPES sponsored event. The 358-Modifieds will compete in a 100-lap extra distance feature, while the Sportsman will run a 30-lap special.
The races will be important for drivers looking for an early season edge in the Super DIRT Series point standings. Just last year, Danny Johnson scored a huge victory in the opening event at Utica-Rome, on the way to eight consecutive Super DIRT Series victories and the lucrative Mr. DIRT 358-Modified Championship.
Utica-Rome track points will not be issued in the Super DIRT Series events, with the exception being for the Slingshot division, which will also see action during the Motherís Day Special.
