HOBBY STOCK DIVISION AT CAN-AM CHANGES RULES AND NAME

LAFARGEVILLE, NY The highly popular Hobby Stock division at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville will undergo some major rule changes for the 2001-racing season.

Over the last few years, the division was known as the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stocks. However, for 2001, Hobby Stocks will not be sanctioned by I.M.C.A. and the division will now become known as the "Pure Stocks". In addition, the division will now be governed by the same rules as the Pure Stock division at Can-Ams sister track, the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon.

"We felt that this move would be the best for everyone," said new Can-Am promoter Eric Kingsley, who also owns and promotes Utica-Rome. "In 2000, a few Can-Am Hobby Stocks raced at Utica-Rome, and they were competitive with our Pure Stocks. We would like all competitors to merge their cars over to Utica-Rome rules, so they can race at either track in 2001."

The 2001 Can-Am Pure Stock rules are available on the Utica-Rome website, located at http://www.newuticaromespeedway.com/rules/purestockrules2001.htm.

For the 2001 season, Can-Am will be once again sanctioned by DIRT Motorsports and will run the same divisions as in the past, except the Street Stocks. Weekly Saturday night racing action at Can-Am will include the DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, I.M.C.A. Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots. The popular Go-Carts will continue their traditional racing on Friday nights.

For more information, or to get a copy of the rules, call the Can-Am Speedway office at (315) 658-4431.
