O'REILLY TEXAS SHOWDOWN TRUE TO ITS NAME
FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Oct. 6, 2000) - The Pennzoil World of Outlaws are known for featuring the best sprint car racers in the world. But the O'Reilly Texas Showdown at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track Oct. 12 and 14 will offer this, and more, for the fans.
All of the leading Pennzoil World of Outlaws stars including Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Mark Kinser, Danny Lasoski and Stevie Smith will be gunning for the $20,000 top prize in the $102,670 two-evening performance. But fans will also be treated to many of the top regional stars from around the country.
Gary Wright from the East Texas town of Hooks, captured his eighth consecutive National Championship Racing Association sprint car title this season. Wright has also posted five Pennzoil World of Outlaws career victories.
"Racing against the World of Outlaws always brings out the best in a sprint car driver," said Wright. "When you beat the best in the business, you have really accomplished something."
Travis Rilat, also from Texas, is expected to be another top challenger. Rilat competed in NCRA competition against Wright much of the summer in addition to being a top runner in the American Sprint Car Series national circuit. Donnie Crawford, who has won multiple championships at Tulsa Speedway, will lead a large Oklahoma contingent.
O'Reilly Auto Parts stores are offering fans a coupon that can be redeemed for a free pit pass for the O'Reilly Texas Showdown. Fans with race tickets may exchange the coupon for a pit pass at the dirt track on race nights. The spectator gates open at 6 pm nightly with the first heat at 8 pm.
