FORT WASHINGTON, PA OCTOBER 1, 2001 . . . As hard as it may
be to believe, the auto racing season is just about over. It
seems that it was just getting started. And with that in
mind, it is time to start thinking about the biggest
happening in motorsports during the off-season, the Pennzoil
Motorsports 2001 Auto Racing Trade Show.
The three day motorsports extravaganza (rated by many as
the #1 show of its type in the nation) gets the green flag at
1 p.m. on Friday, January 12th and continues through until 6
p.m. on Sunday, January 14th. The show, the 16th annual
edition, will feature more than 270,000 square feet of
nothing but auto racing making it the largest show presented
at the Fort Washington, PA Expo Center.
"When January comes, fans are looking to get a lift
after a couple of months without their favorite sport.
Pennzoil Motorsports gives them that. And there is a lot of
business that takes place at the show. Many sponsorship deals
are found and many finalized during the show and during the
after hours activities. And racers and fans get to find out
what is new in the sport. Speedways are able to reach out and
connect with fans by circulating schedules and chatting with
fans and competitors about their plans for the new season. If
it has something to do with auto racing, all types of auto
racing, it can probably be found at Pennzoil Motorsports,"
said show organizer Len Sammons.
More than 600 exhibit areas will be loaded with
everything from auto racing publications to parts and
equipment manufacturers on to collectable vendors. And there
is a HARDCORE MANUFACTURERS section that attracts many racers
to see what is new and buy what they need for the new season.
There are a number of driver, team and fan participation
events including the very popular MotorMax Motorsports Garage
where actual demonstrations, of interest to racers and fans,
are presented throughout the three day show.
United States Tobacco/A-Plus Mini Markets will, again,
sponsor the Ms. Motorsports 2001 Contest. Each year more than
30 ladies participate in the event with a lucrative cash
award and some personal appearance opportunities going to the
winner. There is some serious judging involved with first
place going to the most well rounded lady meaning that she
has to possess appearance, charm, intelligence and poise.
Some previous winners have turned their reign as Ms.
Motorsports into some very lucrative career opportunities.
Entries are now being accepted at 609.888.3618.
There is a Kids Big Wheel Racing competition that
has seen some dramatic on track action in the past. The
Little Miss Motorsports Contest gives the "very young ladies"
a chance to have their "15 minutes of fame."
And there is the antique/vintage car displays, legends
of auto racing autograph sessions and additional autograph
sessions that feature top name racers and personalities in
the sport.
Once a show attendee has purchased an admission ticket
there are no additional charges including the fact that
autographs are free.
More than 150 race vehicles of all types, including
boats and drag racing, will be on display. And many well
known racers will be found wandering through the show.
All throughout the three day event there are a variety
of seminars that go from " ATTRACTING SERIOUS SPONSORSHIP" to
"RACE CAR SETUPS." Free to show attendees.
Businesses planning to participate in the 16th Annual
Pennzoil Motorsports Show should be making their arrangements
now. "The show exhibit space is filling very quickly. In
fact, because of past success, many exhibitors are adding to
their display areas and there are a number of new exhibitors,
hearing of tremendous success others have had at the show,
that have signed up early for the 2001 show. We think we have
the makings of what could be a record year. Space is
available now on a first-come, first serve basis," said show
manager Joe Pratt.
Businesses wishing to benefit from marketing
opportunities (sponsor an event, award or an employee/client
activity) offered at Pennzoil Motorsports, at very reasonable
rates, are invited to contact Ernie Saxton Communications,
Inc. at 215.752.7797 or fax 215.752.1518. There is a brochure
available that outlines what is available.
And those wishing to make lodging arrangements at one of
several area hotels (first class lodging) offering discount
show rates may contact Marilyn Saxton at 215.752.2392 or
Plaza II Travel at 215.943.0190.
The Fort Washington Expo Center is easy to get to, just
a short distance from Exit 26 of the PA. Turnpike. In fact,
by the time January 12th arrives, a new turnpike exit and
entrance for westbound traffic, should be ready for use,
making it even easier to get to the show. And once inside the
show, it is just like Benny Parsons says on TV just about
every weekend, "WOW."
