358 MODIFIED SUPER DIRT SERIES 100-LAP EVENT PLUS PRO STOCK SUPER DIRT SERIES, PURE STOCKS, & DEMOLITION DERBY TO END NEW UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY’S 2000 SEASON ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22
VERNON, NY – The Sunoco Race Fuels 358 Modified Super DIRT Series heads to the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon on Friday September 22 for a special $3000 to win 100-lap Super DIRT Week 358 Modified Championship Qualifier, which will end the 2000 racing season at Utica-Rome. Also scheduled will be a $600 to win 25-lap Automobile Recyclers Association of New York Pro Stock Super DIRT Series event which will be a Rolling Wheels Raceway World Series Qualifier, plus the Pure Stocks and a Demolition Derby. Race time is scheduled for 7pm.
The very best drivers of the DIRT Motorsports 358 Modified division will be on hand for this season ending event at Utica-Rome, which is the 21st stop on the 28-race Sunoco 358 Modified Super DIRT Series.
Series point leader Danny Johnson of Rochester, who opened the series with a win at Utica-Rome on May 14, will lead all drivers and could be the man to beat. Other series stars looking for the huge 100-lap win will be Pete Bicknell, Steve Paine, and Utica-Rome regular Todd Burley who has two Utica-Rome wins this season, plus Vic Coffey, Keith Hoffman, Ryan Baye, Dan Miller, Brett Hearn, Alan Johnson, and Kyle Jacobs.
Many of Utica-Rome’s 358 Modified regulars will also be on hand to defend their home turf from the invading stars. Expect 2000 358 Modified Track Champion Ron Holmes to lead the charge, along with other top runners Dale Planck, J.J. Michaels, Billy Wilcox, Tim Clemons, Roger Phelps, Gus Schmidt, Jack Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, John Barker, Jason Barney, and Mitch Gibbs.
Last year at this event, Brett Hearn jetted his way on to victory over Steve Paine and Danny Johnson, with 51 358 Modifieds attempting to qualify.
Along with the Super DIRT Series event, the ARANY Super DIRT Series for Pro Stocks will be on hand, along with a Pure Stock feature, and a Demolition Derby to end the evening.
The gates on Friday September 22 will open at 4pm and racing will begin at 7pm. The speedway is located just 20 minutes west of Utica on Route 5 in Vernon, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
