9TH ANNUAL TINY LUND MEMORIAL SCHEDULED AT HARLAN
(Harlan, Iowa, 8/20/00) The 9th Annual Tiny Lund Memorial Nationals are
less then a month away now on September 14th thru 17th at the Shelby
County Speedway in Harlan, Iowa.
Tiny Lund was a giant of a man born and raised in Harlan, Iowa where he
got his start in racing at the Fairgrounds. Tiny raced in IMCA and
eventually moved to South Carolina to race with NASCAR. His biggest win
came in the 1963 Daytona 500 while filling in for Marvin Panch, who was
burned in a practice session accident with an experimental Maserati.
Tiny was the 1st man to the accident and pulled Panch from his burning
car. Panch persuaded the Wood Brothers to let Tiny drive for them in
the 500. And the rest is history. 12 years later in August of 1975 Tiny
lost his life in a 6 car pileup at Talladega.
This will be the 5th year for IMCA sanctioning of this prestigous event
