Has anyone here heard of an after market adjustable rate macpherson strut? I am building an 80 mustang and was wondering if anyone has had experince in this area. Any help would be great. Also what about making the strut free wheel and adding a racing shock?

Naturally you can get struts with different valving, but I haven't seen any that are adjustable. As far a freewheeling and adding a shock..First if your going to do so, pay close attention to where your going to mount the new shock. It'll have to mount to the lower control arm somewhere, and you might end up with clearance problems. Second, If your going to "freewheel" the strut, why not just do away with them altogether, and convert to one with an upper control arm like the pinto or mustang 2. This would would save you some weight as you can trash the heavy usless struts, and the new suspension would provide more caster and camber adjustability.

That is an excellent idea swaping for a pinto type front end. I need to ask the officials if it is leagal to do so. The rules state that it has to be stock type suspension, And I may not be able to get away with it. I will let you know what I find out. As far as the struts go I plan on doing some disecting and experimenting. I have some Ideas but am not sure they will work. It involves adding a schreader valve and charging it with nitrogen. I hope to be able to make it adjustabe by adjusting the nitrogen charge. I will have to tear one apart and see what I have to work with.
