I was just curious as to what type of gasoline everyone uses. I've heard of people using aviation fuel and 76 racing gasoline. There's an article on the Parker Carburetion site that talks about each. But I was wondering what type and octane everyone here uses.

I run 110 but that is because of the compression I am running. You can run anything you want but if you dont have the compression to go with the fuel than you are just wasting your money.

I agree with tre, i ran 91 octane last year (premium unleaded) and one night tried out the 110 racing fuel to see what happened. Nothing different except for the smell of the exhaust. But this year I milled my head all kinds so I gotta run the 110 octane. What kind of engine and compression are you running do you know?

Your best bet is to figure out what compression your running, you dont want to run any more octane than you have to. slow burning fuel and low compression make for poor performance.....towman

So, does higher octane fuel burn slower? I thought it was vice-versa. Once I know my compression ratio, is there some formula in order to figure out what octane I should be using?

Correct me if I'm wrong. But it sounds like the higher compression ratio you have, the higher octane you want to burn. Can someone explain why this is? Thanks,

I have my head machined 100th and the rest of my engine has been built up. Because of this we run VPRed high octane. My mechanic says that due to the high compression you have to run the higher octane fuel to prevent early detnation (SP) I think VPred is around 116 or so Octane.
Hope this helps,

yes the lower octane rating the easier it burns

You ever climbed a hill and your car was pinging a lot? and you thought,"cheap gas", right? well that ping is as b4racing said, early detonation. If you put the higher octane pump gas in your daily driver chances are the ping will go away. From what I recall that early detonation can cause valve damage, you dont want that. GL man
